Respected Fairborn physician dies at
62
Dr.
John Peterangelo, also a school board member, remembered as
inspiring, trusted.

By
Jeremy P. Kelley
Staff Writer
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
FAIRBORN — Dr. John J. Peterangelo,
longtime Fairborn physician and former Fairborn school board member
known fondly as "Dr. Pete," died Saturday, May 10, at Hospice of
Dayton. He was 62.
He resigned from the school board
after being diagnosed with brain cancer in November.
Dr. Peterangelo ran a family practice in the city for more than
three decades, treating thousands. He made an impact thousands of
miles away as well, opening a medical clinic in the Central American
country of Belize.
"He left a tremendous legacy of
caring for people," said Howard Drenth, director of physician
practices for Greene Memorial Hospital. "You think about the
families and even generations of families that he treated."
Drenth said at Greene Memorial, Dr.
Peterangelo had been elected chief of the medical staff, served as
chairman of the family practice section, and most recently was a
member of the board of directors.
Dr. Peterangelo served on the
Fairborn school board from 2004-07, and many of his colleagues
credit him with helping rejuvenate a district that had major fiscal
problems. Voters turned down three tax levies before finally passing
one in May 2007.
Tom Swaim, school board president,
said Dr. Peterangelo "was just a unique person," whether he was
getting medication for people who couldn't afford it, or inspiring
the district's teaching staff at a year-opening presentation.
"Things have really turned around
for the district, and Dr. Peterangelo was a major influence in doing
those things," Swaim said. "He stepped forward right when our
schools needed him. People trusted him, and our school board needed
that trust."
Superintendent Dave Scarberry echoed
that feeling, adding that Dr. Peterangelo "had a huge inner
strength. He gave everything of himself and expected nothing in
return. The man was a healer."
Dr. Peterangelo is survived by his
wife, Louise; son Steven and daughter Jennifer Peterangelo;
stepdaughters Cynthia Meaux and Candice Patrick; brother Jerry
Peterangelo; and sister Grace Pittmann.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 6
to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Belton-Stroup Funeral Home, 422 E.
Dayton-Yellow Springs Road.
Mass of Christian burial is 10 a.m.
Thursday at Mary Help of Christians Church, 954 N. Maple Ave.

Frank and Lori Moore have a
DAUGHTER!!
Hello, friends and
family!
Lori and I are proud to announce that Kira
Marie Moore, our first child, was born on Friday, February 29, 2008, at
2:52 PM at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, AK.
Our little Leap Day Baby was 13 days early!
She was 7 lbs. 6 ounces and 19.6" long at birth, with lots of
dark brown hair that has light brown, red, and blond highlights. She
has very dark eyes, but with a touch of light grey. Delivery
lasted about 15 hours, and was quite difficult in the final three hours
... but Mommy and Baby are healthy and happy, and Kira is growing
already! We were all back home within 25 hours of the birth --much to
the delight of our trusty Australian shepherd, Galileo, who seems
excited and eager to help!
Lori has already posted a handful of pictures from
the delivery room and the first night home:
http://northtoak.blogspot.com
Please enjoy! As with all babies, Kira's already changed quite a lot
since the birth. In between breast-feeding and diaper-changing, we will
try to keep the blog as up to date as possible.
Please check back for updates!
Love and best wishes to all,
Frank

Zach Domicone to
play for Ohio State
BEAVERCREEK —
Ohio State won't play another
football game until this fall. But the
Buckeyes have already beaten Nebraska
and Oklahoma.
In a classic
whirlwind college recruiting tale,
Beavercreek High School senior Zach
Domicone went from committing to
Nebraska to Oklahoma to OSU. And that
was just on Friday.
"After
school, I was told (OSU) coach (Jim)
Tressel wants to talk to me," said
Domicone, a versatile and speedy
6-foot-3, 215-pound defensive back.
"I'm
freaking out at this point. He says
they've got a scholarship waiting for me
at Ohio State. I was speechless. I
didn't know what to say. It came out of
nowhere."
Domicone
wasn't on OSU's recruiting radar until
the Big 12 teams made scholarship
pitches.
Originally
headed to Ohio University, he was lured
to Nebraska when former OU assistant
coach Carl Pelini joined his brother,
newly named head coach Bo Pelini, at
Lincoln earlier this week. That sparked
interest from rival Oklahoma, which
wanted Domicone to visit on Friday.
Once OSU was
up to speed, it moved quickly. After
reviewing a Domicone highlight tape on
Friday morning, recruiting coordinator
John Peterson relayed a message to
Beavers coach Scott Clodfelter: Hold off
on that visit to Norman, Okla.
Now,
Domicone will make his official OSU
visit today, hosted by junior Jake
Ballard of Springboro.
Domicone has
legit 4.46 speed in the 40-yard dash and
has cracked 50 seconds for a 400-meter
relay split. He also has a 3.8 GPA and
scored a 27 on the ACT test. He excelled
at quarterback and cornerback last fall
when the Beavers posted their first
winning season in 15 years (6-4). He
said OSU will play him at safety or
linebacker.
"He's the
total package," said Clodfelter.
"This was
the darndest thing I've ever seen. OSU
showed no interest until the last 12
hours, then all of the sudden, boom.
They don't like losing people from Ohio.
It was a great day. I just couldn't
believe how quickly it happened."
Domicone was
first-team All-Area and first-team
All-Greater Western Ohio Conference. His
father, Fred, was a standout lineman at
Fairborn Park Hills and Dayton.
"They were
both definitely pumped up," Domicone
said of his parents.
The only
other Creek grad to land a football
scholarship to OSU was 1969 grad Randy
Cowman. The first National Letter of
Intent signing day is Feb. 6.

T-minus 5 months
Fairborn native to pilot Space Shuttle in February
By KAREN RASE
Community Correspondent
WPAFB - Traveling 520 mph in a T-38 jet from
Wright-Patterson Air Force Base's flightline to the
Johnson Space Center in Houston may seem pretty fast to
most "earthbound" individuals, but come February 2008,
Col. Gregory H. Johnson will learn first-hand what it's
like to go "really fast," a mind-blowing 25,000 mph
straight up into the pitch black darkness of space.
Johnson, a former Fairborn Park Hills graduate and
valedictorian of his 1980 class, was in town briefly
Tuesday and discussed his upcoming NASA mission of
piloting the Endeavour Space Shuttle (STS-123) come
Valentine's Day. His target - the International Space
Station, a mere 250 miles above the earth.
"Training is very, very busy as you might expect," said
Johnson, who has waited 10 years for this opportunity.
He'll be spending two weeks in the ISS with six other
crewmates and has hopes of commanding a future mission
before NASA pulls the plug on travel to the ISS in 2010.
"A lot of space flight is mundane stuff," added Johnson
who'll be busy operating the station's internal robotic
arm. He'll also be familiarizing himself with the
Canadian Space Agency's "Dextre" robotic system and
examining a section of Japan's Aerospace Exploration
Agency's Kibo Lab.
Although it takes only 8 1/2 minutes to reach the space
station (roughly the size of a football field), from
earth, the crew will spend three days preparing to dock
with the ISS, the world's largest orbiting laboratory.
The former Operation Desert Storm combat pilot resides
in Texas with his wife Cari and their three children.
Johnson's brother is noted musician and Fairborn Civic
Band Director, Gary Johnson.
Johnson, 45, will be the keynote speaker at the Dayton
Engineer's Club on Friday, Nov. 16. The public is
invited to hear his presentation on "Flying the Space
Shuttle - Post Columbia." To make dinner reservations
for this event, call 937-228-2148.
On Saturday, Nov. 17, Johnson will present a 1:30 p.m.
lecture in the auditorium at the National Museum of the
U.S. Air Force's Family Day event. This event is free
and open to the public.

| 6/19/07 It is with great sadness and a heavy
heart that I write this message to all, that we have lost Park Hills
1978 classmate Bill (Skip) Lemay to an untimely tragedy in the early
hours yesterday, Sunday, 7/17. Skip was married to my cousin,
Debbie (Thompson) Lemay, Baker class of 1979. Skip was an air
traffic controller for the Cincinnati airport, and a veteran of the
USAF.
Skip leaves behind his
wife, three sons, a daughter-in-law and two grandchildren. Skip and
Debbie's oldest son Josh, is in the USAF and also an air traffic
controller, stationed in Florida, following in Skip's footsteps.
Second son Tony just finished his Junior year at the University of
Kentucky. Youngest son, Bobby, just graduated from high school 2
weeks ago, and also planned on joined the USAF and becoming an air
traffic controller.

Rhonda and Dan at the class of 1980 reunion - August 2000
Dear Friends,
Dan Mevis died March 21, 2003.
This message is from Rhonda.
It is with great sorrow that I send this message. Dan passed away Friday
night, 3/21, at 10:30 p.m. After many setbacks throughout the week; his
lung did collapse due to the high pressures required from the
ventilator, a drain was required in Dan's gallbladder due to it's
failure (a very risky procedure since they had to go through a portion
of his liver), and then eventual internal bleeding from that procedure.
Friday morning Dan was critically unstable, his heart started
having irregular beats when the dialysis treatment was initiated, which
required him to be shocked 5 times. His blood pressure dropped
drastically low and blood pressure support medications were started
again as well as IV medicine to decrease the irritability of his heart.
Dan never regained consciousness, but I told him everyday that
many, many people were praying for him and that he could draw from
that strength. I'm sure he knew that you were all wishing him well. I
would like to thank each and everyone of you for all the prayers, cards,
e-mails. This gave strength to both Dan and me.

Extending our Competitive Advantage: Reynolds Granted New Patent
Congratulations
to associates Ed Becker, Don Millsap, John Simpson, Dwayne Reeves
and the late Dan Mevis
Reynolds
today announced it has been granted a
U.S.
patent for inventing the delivery model and process that serve as
the foundation for the Reynolds Private Managed Network (RPM)
solution. Ed Becker, Don Millsap, John Simpson, Dwayne Reeves, and
the late Dan Mevis are listed as the inventors from Reynolds.
The
patent recognizes Reynolds for inventing a network operation center
that connects multiple external computer systems to allow dealers,
manufacturers and other vendors to access certain portions of each
other’s data while protecting other data. Reynolds developed the
network center in the late 1990s to meet dealers’ needs to connect
directly with car companies, and other vendors, in a secure
environment. “We made it simple for them to communicate without a
lot of equipment and people, and we manage it for them 24/7,” said
Becker.
There
is no other competitive solution like it today, and the award of the
patent creates an advantage for Reynolds in the marketplace as the
only provider of a comprehensive, secure network solution that is
supported end-to-end. More than 1,400 dealerships currently use RPM
in the U.S. In the past 18 months, both Ford and Kia have deployed
the RPM network to connect with their dealers.
