It is amazing to see the photos of so many classmates I have not seen since graduation. I graduated early with the class of '79 but went to school with the class of '80 all those years! I left Ohio and moved to Houston at the age of 18. At that time, my car held everything I owned and it broke down mid trip. Still made it to the Lone Star State. I've been back to Ohio for visits, friends/family marriages and funerals. On each visit I try to see some of our old classmates as some of us keep in touch. Dawn Jenkins passed away last year but Peggy Haun and Susan Lewis are still causing trouble whenever they can!

I am on the Elizabeth Taylor plan and am on my third marriage, but think I finally got it right. One daughter is almost off the payroll once she graduates from Texas Tech in about one year. Three stepchildren are grown and we get the grandkids on occasion. I have had a zillion adult discoveries which makes life absolutely worth living as we never know what is around the next corner. I work in the medical field as a Physician Assistant and have for about 10 years. Now working at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in the Houston medical center which was a goal I wanted to reach when I picked the medical field. I've changed professions several times and feel this will not be my last.

My husband, Mike, and I hope to be present for the 30 year reunion. I may have to carry my yearbook with me as my memory is not that great on 30 year old material. If you remember me and can recall a funny from when we were in school - feel free to send me an e-mail. I get a kick out of revisiting the past. Its a bit mind boggling!

Hey Sven,

After reading some of the entries in the guestbook, I'm a little disappointed in our English Department. Anyway, I produce concerts and events for Harrah's Casino now.I guess years of being a roadie finally paid off. I lived in California for most of my adult life, but I'm in Mississippi now. My kids are all grown, and I've got a bunch of little hellion grandkids. I married a California girl in '98 after a nasty divorce from my first wife. The site rules. Ya gotta love Susie. All in all, life is pretty good at the moment. I plan to be at the 30th reunion, so I'll see everyone there. Peace,

Claudia (Szonn) Nolf
claudia@nolf-family.com

Greetings from Claudia Nolf (maiden name Szonn)

I graduated from PHHS in 1981.
I came to this high school in 9th grade and prior to that I had lived in Germany 11 years.
Those years in that high school were a big challenge for me, the mentality, the language, teenage struggles, and the American way of life were tough.
So after high school I moved back to Germany and have been living in the area of Munich ever since. I have been married
for almost 20 years and am the mother of 3 boys, Dominic (16) André (12) and Nikolai (8).
I have been teaching English to German girls and boys in kindergarten and grammar school.  Other than that I am very active in our village doing charity work
Some of the projects are: I initiated a summer camp with over 80 activities (around 800 children attend each year)
six years ago, then I started a band called "New Generation" with 10-14 musicians, aging from 8
years up until 17 years old, then there is the bible school work, and many other projects which all aim
at uniting...bringing old and young together and donating any money that comes in, for a good cause.

If anyone would like to connect please feel free under my email.

I've had such a challenging year maybe Frank and I should write a "Hee Haw" song about it.

Both my father and stepfather died and I got RIF'd from the base. My girlfriend got let go from her call center, got hit by a car while on vacation breaking her ankle, and then her house got robbed. My brother has also had some health issues.

Right now, Clark County is putting a huge freaking water pipe through my yard!

Sven, do you remember the photo I took of Jeff Schaffer that looks a lot like that Suzie's cat photo? Yeah, he had you band guys going for a while, LOL.

Hi everyone. What a great website. Although I didn't graduate with everyone I certainly grew up with all of you. I moved to Beavercreek before my junior year but stayed in touch until after graduation. I went to college at the University of Alabama, then I moved to San Diego for a few years where I married. After that was Fort Worth, Texas and for the past ten years Stillwater, OK. I am married (Cecilia) with two children (Kelly 13 and Davis 11). I work for Mercury Marine as Director of Quality for the plant in Stillwater and the plant in Juarez, Mexico. I would love to hear from some of the old crowd as I have missed everyone for a long time. Once my parents left Ohio I haven't been back.

I'm so happy to have found this web site! I'm living in Fairborn, Ohio again. I'm married to Rich Hieber and have two children Elisabeth (11) and Alan Michael (8). I was living in the Atlanta, Georgia for ten years and decided to relocate back home after the death of my brother David last July to be near family. I am an English teacher currently teaching at a charter high school in Dayton, Ohio. I recently interviewed for a teaching job at Fairborn High School! How weird is that! I haven't heard yet but I'd love to get it. My husband is an electrical engineer and a 1980 Beavercreek grad. I fondly remember my band days and still have my trombone which I get out from time to time to play the fight song which I still have a copy of. Hopefully, this doesn't sound too pathetic! I also remember Mr. Sewer's Friday papers in English! I do the same thing to my students, they just love it! I plan on attending the Aug. third picnic and hope to see some familiar faces. If anyone knows anyone who could help me get a teaching job in Fairborn just let me know. My kids go to Black Lane and I would love to be on the same schedule as them. Hope to hear from any 1980 grads soon!

Tracy (Semler) Freese, your ex-girlfriend, told me your e-mail address. I just want to thank you very much for getting me in trouble by talking in Symphonic Band back in 1980. This was my one and only detention in my life, and come to think of it, I think you made me do all the sweeping in the band room that day! I should have disputed the detention from Mr. D since you were my immediate supervisor and you were the one who started the conversation. I feel better now that I've got this anger out of my system. I imagine you still don't feel any remorse! Keep on drumming and stop by next time you're in Dayton.

A response from Sven -  I guess it's been long enough, I can tell you now.  I asked Mr. D to give us detention just so I could be alone with you.  I was so shy.  <wink>

This looks like a good opportunity to update my former entry so here goes...I was married for 17yrs to a PHHS '74 grad and divorced almost 4 yrs ago. From that marriage came 3 TERRIFIC kids ~ Chris 15 (Chris is a 6'1" sophomore at FHS and is section leader in Marching Band, he plays tenor sax), Nick 11 (Nick is in 6th grade and plays drums), and Katie 9 (Katie is a "budding artist", very creative and is learning to play clarinet). My kids are absolutely a HUGE blessing in my life and I LOVE being a Mom!!! :) Earlier this year, I met my second husband, Dave and we got married in May. Dave is quickly becoming the proverbial "Band Parent" and we take the two youngest ones and spend our weekends traveling from one competition to another. :) As far as work goes, I'm still at The Children's Medical Center in Dayton. :) I'm an Information Services Educator and spend my days teaching computer classes. Evenings usually find me at home with my family or working in the Emergency Room because our hospital census is through the roof! Unfortunately I haven't been able to attend any of our reunions for one reason or another, but hope to make it to the next one. :)

Me
Hey Sven, I'm actually class of '79 but I thought I'd add my 2 cents. I was very sorry to hear about Brent Rutkowsky's death. We played Tuba together for three years. I find it amazing how many of us have travelled similar paths in the last 20 years. I was in the Air Force for nearly 15 years, but got out back in '96 to go to work as a network engineer. I'm still doing network consulting and doing MUCH better financially than when I was military.

I was married for nearly 10 years before getting a divorce in '90. I have four children from that marriage. Two of which are already high school grads. I married again, to Elizabeth Unitt, in March of '94 and we're still going strong. She had two children when we were married (which I've adopted) and we've had two more since then. The youngest will be 18 months in about 3 weeks. Yes, that's 8(!) children that span 19 years in age. (It keeps you busy.)

Oh, ...and Sven, you ARE the best drummer I ever met...

OK, maybe Jack Kollessor was a little bit better.... :o)

Thanks Sven for setting up this web page. It is really terrific to be able to look back and remember. I stumbled on it trying to find Anne Kitch after my dad saw her name in the paper.

Like several others (whose names and faces I do recognize in this guest book), I left the Fairborn area before our junior year. The military sent us to Germany where I graduated from Zweibruecken American High School. I got my BS Chemistry from Michigan Tech in 84 and found a job in Dayton at the Cargill Corn plant. My parents and younger brother (Rick FHS '85) are still in the Dayton area. Found my husband, Phil, at Cargill and married him in 89. Somehow we both fell into the computer world at Cargill. I deal with lab data systems and business systems. Phil programs the plant control systems. Cargill then sentenced us to life in Nebraska in 98.

We actually got back to Dayton twice this year. The May trip was to see Phil's son get married. We are now grandparents to girls 8 and 9 years old from that marriage. Don't you dare call me granny! I'm not even 40 yet! The July/August trip was to help Phil's son and new wife move from Georgia to Cincy after their separation from the army.

It is just so neat to find out the paths people have taken in their lives.

Hello everyone....I thought it was about time to sign on! I have been through the Fairborn school system since safety school at Five Points. Remember the mini streets and little buildings and the speedy tricycles? I have known a lot of you from day one! What wonderful memories. I married a guy from Rushsylvania, OH and we have been married some 16 years. He is a keeper. We have two sons, Collin and Cameron. The first one is a big 15 1/2 years old. The reason I stress the 1/2 is that he has his driving permit! I wish he was on a speedy tricycle instead. The second one is 13 years old. He is just riding bicycles, thank goodness! I am working at Citizens Federal Savings and Loan in Bellefontaine. Brook, my hubby, works at AP Technoglass. We live outside of Bellefontaine on 5 acres...in a house, of course! We are blessed. I have great memories of high school. I loved the plays, especially the cast parties. Mark, remember chasing the chicken around the auditorium? The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Little Art Theater? Anything Monty Python? Lisa and Eilene, lunchtime and fritos! My older son Collin is in high school and I hope he absorbs all the good fun around him as we all did. Sven and Susie, thanks for giving us all the opportunity to tell our stories.

Very nice job on the web Sven!! I was told about this website through Tim Thompson of class '78. Just 3 days after our class of '80 graduation, I moved to Cocoa Beach, FL where I found a job as an "aquatic enhancement technician". (I was tied to a rope and thrown over the side of a fishing boat to attract sharks and hopefully get pulled in before I became dinner). The money was lousy and smelling like fish guts did nothing to enhance my social life with the ladies. To this day just the sight of Mrs. Pauls fish sticks sends me postal!! I thought I found my true career catching butterflys by the hundreds and trying to identify their gender before letting them go inside four-star restaurants but the opportunity for upward growth was somewhat limited. I was briefly hired by an amusement park as a consultant to figure out why you couldnt use a 100-ft bungi cord on an 80-ft jump. (I never did like new math). Sooo, the end result was my services were terminated after my boss made a test jump and came out of it 2 feet shorter. I did take a stab at marriage, but alas, that also fell short of my "long term goal". I think I was told "its easier to talk an enraged brama bull into a kiss than it is to chase you all over the place"...whatever that means...I did get two wonderful children out of it who constantly ask me which window view do I want from the nursing home...Atlantic or Pacific?...(thoughtful little creatures aren't they?). Currently I reside in Centerville and am Sales Manager for an aerospace company in Dayton. Hobbies include hailing taxi-cabs, going 10 feet and telling them..."ok, stop, we're here". I also enjoy golf, and anything else I can get my hands on outside. I did miss the reunion but hope to make it to the next one. It was wonderful seeing all the photos and write-ups on everyone. I am glad to see many successes. If anyone is interested in writing me back, please do so. Take care all!!

Felicia (Fritz) Simanek
fritzco4u@hotmail.com
Miami, FL
* How'd You Find Me? *

My name is Felicia Simanek (formerly Fritz Simanek). I attended PHHS for two years (would have been class of 1981) and then abruptly moved to Florida where I became a male prostitute, in the park, on the streets, and standing outside gay bars because I was too young to get in. I got money the easy way; I just sold my body to whom ever paid for it and I didn’t care. It was quite a departure from life in Fairborn so I started drinking and doing drugs to cope with the pain, hurt, and confusion that I was feeling. I knew I was different, but how? I needed someone to turn to for questions and answers, but there was no one who would understand.

I couldn’t blame my mother for what happened in my childhood because she didn’t know I was struggling with my gender identity either. I think my mother really knew but she thought I might grow out of it. When Halloween came around, I was always dressing like a girl and the neighborhood kids, in particular Dan “Butch” Gill always wanted me to dress as a girl, so I started doing it every Halloween, and I felt comfortable, and I didn’t know why.

Anyway, I’m happy to announce that I have been clean and sober for the past 6 years while still living in Miami, Florida working in retail. My gender transformation surgery took place in 1989 and was an absolute success. Shortly thereafter, I married my long-time partner Ben and am happy to say that we are currently pursuing the dream of adopting a child. Although I probably will never have the occasion to return to Fairborn, I will always hold onto the fond memories of being a snare drummer in the Viking Guard despite all of the name-calling inflicted on me from Jack, Sven, Andy, Doug, Russ, and Masky. Just so you know guys, I harbor no hard feelings about those days.

I know I have the tendency to ramble but hopefully my story will make an impact with someone who may be experiencing the same things I went through during those troubled years. If so, please feel free to contact me at: fritzco4u@hotmail.com. Ciao!

Hey everybody! Greetings from the last guy to graduate from the class of 1980:) It's great to see all of the familiar faces and read how wonderful everyone is doing. After PHHS I graduated from O.U. with a degree in journalism, then I ended up in a sales career! I've been with the same company since 1985 and moved up through the ranks. It's been a terrific ride. In 1987, I married Elaine Roberts who I met working for the same company. We have two wonderful kids(this is what other people tell me-as you other parents know it's never the same at home)Evan, age 11 and Bronwyn age 9. It is really hard to believe that it's been 20 years since high school. Unfortunately, I've not been able to attend any of the reunions. But, I hope to be attending the next! Take care to all! See ya

Great Site!! If you are wondering who I am, just look for my picture in the 79(Junior)yearbook. My dad was transfered to Arizona and I missed out on being included in the 80 yearbook. I hope to be invited to the next reunion, missed the last few. Oh well I guess I wasn't that popular anyway. I'm glad to see everyone is doing well. Keep in touch.

My class (1981) doesn't have a page, so I thought I'd leave some thoughts at this one. For those of you who don't remember me (probably most of you - I stayed in the background a lot), I toiled in the Fairborn school system for 10 years (Five Points K-8 and freshman year at Park Hills) before my dad retired, pulled chocks and moved to Colorado in 1978, where I graduated both high school and college. I got married in 1987, and joined the Air Force the same year. I served as an intelligence officer for 12 years (did Desert Storm and Allied Force), and then got out in 1999. I work as a test engineer at Eglin AFB, Florida. Good work if you can get it, and there's no snow to shovel (remember the Blizzard of '78?). I have two boys, Greg (5) and Mark (18 months). Still married to Carol, whom I met in college in Colorado.

Although Colorado became my home, I always missed Fairborn. I was born there (well, Xenia actually, since Fairborn had no hospital), and lived there until I was 16, so it was very hard to leave. I haven't been to Fairborn since 1995, but when I was there I was amazed at how much the area had changed, especially out by the mall and Wright State (where there used to be absolutely nothing).

Sven - good job on your web site. Seeing so many familiar names that I had forgotten years ago brought back many good memories of Fairborn, Park Hills, Five Points.

I was searching for information on the class of 1981 and ran across this site. I viewed some of the pictures and they brought back many memories. If fact, I had dated Sven for a brief period. Although my graduation year was 1981, I had graduated as a junior in 1980. Take care....Norma

Although I graduated in 1983, I have many friends from the class of 1980 and miss every one of them. Hi to all of you and hope you have a great time at your reunion this weekend.

Sven has done a wonderful job on this site. I hope our class can do as great a job when it's time for our reunion in 2003.

Take care everyone!

Hello everyone. Plan to crash the reunion. If you do not remember me check 78 and 79 yearbooks. I went to Beavercreek H.S. senior year and hated it. After H.S., spent 3 years "finding myself" then got a B.S. in biology and a M.D. at Wright State. The U.S. Army payed for medical school so I spent 8 years with that fine organization. Moved back to Xenia,OH last summer. I am currently in a private practice in obstetrics/gynecology and a assistant clinical professor in the Dept Ob/Gyn at WSU SOM. I have been married to the same girl for 17 years and have 2 grown stepchildren, 2 granddaughters, and a 4 year old son.

I am not married so I will be the last person from the Class of "80 to be married. After graduating from Park Hills I went to college at Morehead State for a few years and then joined the Air Force. I was in the Air Force for 4 years and traveled all over the world. I am now living in Miamisburg and have been working for Pepsi for 8 years as an Account Rep. I heard about the web site through Roy Hawkins and his wife Karen. I am looking forward to seeing everyone next weekend.
