Steve Risner
was murdered in the
summer of 1978
this is plea for the extradition of his murderer...
This is Marie Gay,
I hope you are happy and healthy and that life is good. I have a favor to ask, I am hoping that you can help me contact as many people as possible to start a letter writing campaign regarding Steve Risner. I would like to flood the Prosecutor's Office with letters from Steve's friends and classmates insisting upon the extradition of Steven Eugene Nelson from Georgia and writing the Prosecutor to let him know of the impact Steve had on your life as a friend and how his untimely death affected you. I don’t know if you have been following Steve's case, but the latest turn of events may finally bring some closure to the Risner family. I feel compelled to do all I can for my friend and neighbor Steve.
Just a little current background about the case: Steven Eugene Nelson was arrested in Cobb County Georgia on the 26th of December for the murder of Steve. It has been printed in the paper that Steven Nelson has advanced cancer and should not be extradited. His wife and brother have both made statements regarding his health and how unfair it is to extradite him to Ohio. I am absolutely appalled when I read an article regarding the welfare and health of Steve Nelson. I will not rest until this man has been brought before us in court. I really don't care how ill this man is, after all he had no regard for Steve's life.
Steven Nelson is also a suspect in the Homer Griffitts murder in Springfield shortly after Steve Risner was murdered. He is a career criminal having committed crimes in Georgia as well. The Risner family does not wish to make comments to the media. I feel as Steve's friends we should speak for the family and let the media know how truly special and what a wonderful person Steve was.
I think we should demand that Steve Nelson be extradited regardless of his health, and I think we should thank William Schenck and John Irwin for their endless pursuit. John Irwin, now retired, stayed employed part-time to continue working on the Steve Risner murder. His efforts are the reason this case was never closed. Without these 2 individuals the Risner family may never have had any closure. We owe them a BIG thank-you.
With help from Steve's friends I think we can make a difference. If nothing else, maybe the media will print some of these letters and the Risner family will have joy knowing that Steve's friends have not forgotten him. The address for the Prosecuting Attorney is:
William F. Schenck
Prosecutor's Office
61 Greene Street

Anything you could do would help. I am contacting the neighbors and anyone I see around town I let them know. This needs to happen quickly. I will say thanks in advance. Please write back to let me know how you feel. You could even forward this email to your friends.
Thank you !
